JIBC employee engagement website recognized with two Horizon Interactive Awards
Received silver awards in two categories
A website to foster employee engagement at the Justice Institute of British Columbia (JIBC) has been recognized with two Horizon Interactive Awards. The internal site, for the JIBC Live initiative, took silver awards in two website categories – School/University and Training/E-Learning.
It was designed by JIBC staff to engage colleagues across the organization and its six campuses and provide a fun, central place to connect and share ideas. The interactive site is “gamified,” with users collecting points for participating in activities ranging from contributing to online discussions and posting a news item to registering for an event. Each month, users can redeem points for a monthly reward draw.
The JIBC Live website was developed and is maintained by Institute staff for staff with the complete support of the JIBC executive team. The project was led by JIBC staff member Melanie Chernoff with the support of the JIBC Live committee.
“The JIBC Live website is a new way for JIBC staff to engage with each other virtually,” said Chernoff. “Since its launch, the website has attracted close to 250 users and this continues to climb every week. The website allows all staff from all six JIBC campuses to connect with one another, learn about each other, and participate in events together through the themes of ‘mind, body, soul, community.’”
Tannis Morgan, Director of JIBC’s Centre for Teaching, Learning and Innovation, which was consulted on the project and nominated it for the Horizon Awards, said the website was significant in terms of employee engagement.
“It’s an interesting way of blending social networking, online community spaces and face-to-face sessions to bring people together in the workplace,” Morgan said.
The Horizon Interactive Awards, now in its 16th year, are among the most prestigious awards in the field of interactive and creative media, recognizing the best in web sites and web site design, along with several other mediums. The 2017 competition saw more than 1,000 entries from 17 countries around the world which were judged by an international volunteer panel of industry professionals.
